Zhangping Shuixian is a unique variation of Shuixian oolong tea, distinguished by its rare square, compressed brick shape, traditionally wrapped in paper. The Shuixian tea bush, originally from Jianou near the Wuyi Mountains, was introduced to Zhangping. This tea gained recognition in the early 20th century, and while its production has expanded to numerous small and large farms, it remains relatively unknown even within China and is rarely encountered internationally.
Unlike many other Shuixian oolongs, which are often heavily charcoal roasted, Zhangping Shuixian has a lighter fermentation and roasting process. This makes it stand out from its counterparts in Wuyishan, Fenghuang, or Jianou. The result is a tea with a refreshing and sweet flavor, ideal for those who prefer delicate, lightly roasted oolongs.
