Form and function

Made for your tea table

This tea bowl has a gently flared profile, a low foot, and a broad rim that suits whisked or steeped tea. Its strongly varied surface moves from dark red-brown across the body to pale blue and cream around the rim, making each pour visually engaging.

Tea bowls have long been part of East Asian tea traditions, while the Shino glaze style is historically associated with Japanese ceramics of the Momoyama period. The bowl form is held in both hands or placed before the drinker during a tea gathering.

Made in China and wood-fired, this piece follows Shino-style contrasts with thick pale glaze, exposed dark clay, and visible crackling. Ash and flame have created irregular transitions across the surface. Rinse with warm water, wipe softly, and allow it to dry completely.
