Wood-Fired Gaiwan # 96179

This gaiwan has a clearly flared rim, a fitted domed lid with a pronounced knob, and a raised foot that keeps the bowl comfortable to handle. The lid can hold back leaves while the opening allows controlled pouring into a fairness pitcher or cup.

The gaiwan appeared in China during the Ming period and became a versatile vessel for brewing and drinking tea. In gongfu practice, leaves are placed directly inside, water is added, and the lid guides the infusion during pouring.

Made in China and wood-fired, it carries a blue-grey speckled surface with darker edges and subtle ash variation on the lid. The unglazed-looking rim highlights the firing character. Rinse after use, clean around the lid seat, and dry all parts separately.
