The wood-fired gaiwan combines a wide pouring rim with a low, rounded body and a substantial lid knob. Its open profile makes it easy to observe leaves and control the pour, while the foot lifts the bowl comfortably above the table.

The gaiwan is a covered tea bowl that became established in Chinese tea culture during the Ming period. It remains central to gongfu brewing, where the lid is tilted to retain leaves and the infusion is poured directly into small cups.

Made in China and fired with wood, this stoneware shows ash-softened blue-grey tones, darker edges, and natural firing variation. Rinse promptly after use, and allow the bowl and lid to dry fully apart.
