The tea

A closer look

The footed matcha cup has a straight-sided, rounded form with a wide rim, providing a steady vessel for whisking and sipping tea. Its blue Shino-style glaze is layered with paler clouds and darker lines, while the unglazed brown foot creates a warm contrast.

The open cup recalls the chawan tradition of matcha, designed for whisking tea and drinking from the same vessel at the table. Shino is a historical glaze style linked to Japan's Mino kilns, especially in the late sixteenth century, rather than a regional name for this cup's manufacture.

Made in China with wood firing, the surface shows ash variation, softly pooled blue glaze and a dark fired foot. The rounded walls sit securely in the hand. Rinse gently after use and dry thoroughly.
