Form and function
This Han tile teapot pairs a broad, gently rounded body with a flat fitted lid, a long angled spout and a generous loop handle. Raised coin-shaped panels cover the sides, giving the pot a distinctive tactile surface and a decorative theme associated with prosperity and good fortune.
The tile reference describes the relief style rather than a documented traditional teapot shape. Chinese teapots gained prominence during the Ming dynasty with the spread of loose-leaf tea, while gongfu practice uses a pot for successive, concentrated infusions shared at the table.
Made in China from dark ceramic, this version shows warm brown highlights along the moulded coins, characters and Greek-key borders. Use it for tea leaves suited to repeated brewing, then rinse gently and leave the open pot to dry thoroughly.
