The tea

A closer look

The gaiwan combines a bowl, fitted lid, and saucer for brewing and drinking tea with control. Its crackle-glazed ash-blue appearance brings visual depth, while the lid can hold back leaves as liquor is poured into cups.

The gaiwan became established in Chinese tea culture during the Ming period and remains central to gongfu brewing. It can steep leaves directly, with the lid used to regulate flow, or decant the infusion into a fairness pitcher.

Ge glaze is a historical Chinese crackle-glaze style associated with Song-era kiln traditions, valued for its network of lines across the surface. Made in China, this piece should be rinsed gently and dried without abrasive cleaning.
